Remembering Dr. Nick Anas

With deep sadness, we share news of the passing of Dr. Nick Anas,
senior vice president and physician-in-chief, CHOC Children’s.

A nationally recognized expert, Dr. Anas was board-certified in both pediatric critical care and pediatric pulmonary medicine. In addition to serving as principal investigator on several clinical research projects, he authored numerous articles in prestigious medical journals and pediatric critical care textbooks.

Dr. Anas joined CHOC’s medical staff in 1984 and was appointed medical director of the pediatric intensive care unit in 1991. A year later, he launched the CHOC-Harbor UCLA Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship Program, playing a key role in training future generations of pediatric specialists.

Throughout his decades-long service to CHOC’s mission, Dr. Anas expanded numerous programs and services to meet the needs of children and families in the community. He recruited some of the nation’s leading pediatric experts to CHOC, propelling us towards our vision to be a leading destination for children’s health. Dr. Anas fostered numerous collaborations with hospital partners to advance pediatric treatments, research and education. His work outside of CHOC was equally impressive and guided by his devotion to securing the brightest futures for children and their families.

Dr. Anas leaves an inspiring legacy. Thousands of young lives, across multiple generations, have forever been changed for the better because of him. We honor Dr. Anas by continuing his great work and commitment to excellence.
