Presenter Bio: Dr. Rebecca Ba’Gah is a board-certified pediatrician and psychiatrist who is a pediatric psychiatrist at CHOC Hospital. During her Triple Board training at the University of Kentucky, she took a special interest in substance use disorder treatment and prevention having seen the effects across the lifespan. She is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry’s Substance Use Committee and serves as a Liaison to American Academy of Pediatrics’ Committee on Substance Use and Prevention. Dr. Ba’Gah believes education is at the root of any success.

Objectives:

  • Learn and identify what’s being used today from the non-medical use of prescription medications to illicit substances
  • Recognize signs that someone may be engaging in medication misuse and/or substance use
  • Understand the power of words in working with students who may use substances

Brief Description:
A Child and Adolescent Mental Health expert from CHOC Hospital of Orange County will talk with school staff about how to identify when a student may be using and/or engaging in substance use and what next steps can look like. This large session outlines specific, small steps to help support the students in your school community.
