RALPHS/FOOD 4 LESS FOUNDATION DONATES $25,000 TO CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL OF ORANGE COUNTY'S PEDIATRIC CANCER FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
May 05, 2008

The Ralphs/Food 4 Less Foundation donated $25,000 in support of Children’s Hospital of Orange County’s (CHOC) Pediatric Cancer Fellowship Program, which is designed to train medical residents – already licensed physicians- in the specialty of pediatric oncology.  Under the tutelage of a senior CHOC oncologist, the pediatric cancer fellow will see oncology patients and assist with a research project in the field of pediatric cancer.

This recent donation to the Pediatric Cancer Fellowship Program brings the Ralphs/Food 4 Less Foundation’s philanthropic support of CHOC to more than $188,000 since 1996.  The Foundation has donated $100,000 towards the construction of an adolescent wing on the hospital’s existing oncology floor.  The wing will include three new inpatient rooms with décor more appropriate for teens and young adults, and a teen room.

“Ralphs and Food 4 Less believe strongly in giving back to the community,” said Mike Donnelly, president of Ralphs Supermarkets. “We’re excited to extend our commitment by continuing our long-time support of Children’s Hospital of Orange County. We cannot think of a better way to invest in our community than by giving families and children hope through our support of the innovative work CHOC is doing to provide world-class medical care to children.”

About The Ralphs/Food 4 Less Foundation: The Ralphs/Food 4 Less Foundation reflects the supermarket companies' role as one of the region's largest supermarket operators and its philosophy of giving back to the communities it serves.
