CHOC INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED FOR SUCCESS OF SAFE SITTER PROGRAM
November 15, 2002

Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) has recently been recognized for ranking among the top ten largest Safe Sitter sites last year, out of nearly 900 operating throughout the United States, Canada and England. In 2001, 31,858 students completed the Safe Sitter program, and CHOC is proud to be one of the facilities to have trained the largest number of students.

Safe Sitter is an intensive training program which educates adolescents ages 11-13 in the knowledge, skills and attitude they need to provide safe, nurturing childcare. Participants learn everything they need to know for successful babysitting including basic first aid, what to do in an emergency, getting kids to bed on time and how to help a crying child.

Safe Sitter is one of many outreach programs offered through the CHOC community education department. For more information on this and other community education services provided by CHOC, please call (714) 532-8887 or visit www.choc.org.
