Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) has announced the launch of its fourth center of excellence, the CHOC Orthopaedic Institute, the only program of its kind in the region, offering programs specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of complex orthopaedic injury, illness and disorders in children and adolescents. CHOC’s highly experienced pediatric orthopaedic surgeons and specialists, along with a multidisciplinary team, will provide a complete range of clinical, surgical and ancillary support services in one setting.
Afshin Aminian, M.D., a CHOC pediatric orthopaedic surgeon, was appointed Medical Director of the Institute. Dr. Aminian has been internationally recognized for his research on adolescent hip disorders. He specializes in performing alternative, minimally invasive and nonfusion surgical methods for the treatment of scoliosis.
Recently, Dr. Aminian performed the first Scoliosis Vertebral Body Stapling (to prevent further curvature of the spine in growing children and adolescents) on the West Coast. His published research has appeared most recently in the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics.
The CHOC Orthopaedic Institute is comprised of the following specialty programs: The CHOC Spine Center; Infant and Adolescent Hip Disorder Program; Sports Medicine Program; Clubfoot and Foot Disorder Program; Musculoskeletal Tumor Program; Hand Program; Neuromuscular Disease Program; and Trauma and Fracture Care.
