When Animals Attack!: A Primer on Zoonoses for the General Pediatrician

“When Animals Attack!: A primer on zoonoses for the General Pediatrician” is a quick review of animal borne diseases. The presentation, given by Dr. Jennifer Green, provides physicians with guidelines for approaching patients who might have animal borne diseases. The presentation also delves deeper into some of the more common zoonoses seen in kids.

Zoonoses, when appropriate, should be thought of in differential diagnoses. This is important because while rare individually, zoonoses as a whole are not uncommon and can be dangerous when missed. Please note that vector borne diseases are excluded from this discussion since there was a recent Grand Rounds on the topic. Diseases that are highlighted are Cat Scratch disease, Typhus, Tularemia, Leptospirosis and Brucella.
