Now that schools are opening, how can I prepare my child for return?

Presenter Bio: Gabriela Hernandez is a licensed clinical social worker who joined CHOC Children’s in 2018 as one of the first therapists to open up the Mental Health Inpatient Center. The Cherese Mari Laulhere Mental Health Inpatient Center (MHIC) is an inpatient psychiatric center exclusively dedicated to the treatment of children ages 3-17 with mental illness who are in immediate risk of hurting themselves or others. It is the only inpatient facility in Orange County that can treat patients younger than 12. Providers on this unit are specially trained to treat children and provide the very best patient- and family-centered care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Gabriela has over 15 years in the field and has worked in outpatient, with institutionalized youth and inpatient services.

Presentation Description: This course will discuss how changes in routine/structure impact students’ mental health and can limit their ability to learn. Participants will learn how to establish realistic expectations of students and how they can be supportive.
