Summit Logistics

Short Presentations. The preliminary format of this summit is a combination of short (5-10 minute) “TED-like” talks by volunteer presenters followed by 10 or more minutes for group discussion (called “10 x 10” sessions). The talks can be on any mini topic that pertains to data and/or artificial intelligence particularly in medicine and healthcare that would provide an important takeaway for our group (such as differences in cognitive process between physicians and data scientists, use of spiking neural network in healthcare, etc). This format will foster lively group discussions. The 10 minute talk can also be presentation of a difficult problem that the group can discuss and try to solve together (such as current limitations of deep learning for ultrasound studies, data science education of younger generation clinicians, etc). The 10 x 10 format can be flexible (more or less time for presentation or discussion) but 20 minutes total will be allotted per presenter.

Attendees are recommended to submit one or two talk titles (accompanied by a one sentence description of no more than 50 words). Our entire group will have an opportunity to vote (in June) on which talks (a total of 12-16) will be given at the summit. Please submit your talk titles and descriptions by June 15th to Nathaniel Bischoff (see final page for contact information). Decisions will be sent out by July 1st.

Breakfast Panel. There will also be ample opportunity for group interaction in the form of a breakfast panel focused on a hot topic (to be determined also by our group). The preliminary hot topic will be Deep Learning vs Cognitive Architecture for Biomedicine.

Deep Learning Workshop. There will be a special three-hour hands-on workshop on Application of Deep Learning in Biomedicine. This special workshop will be at the conclusion of our summit for all those interested. More details are forthcoming.

“Neural” Networking. There will be several networking breaks as well as a networking dinner on Wednesday night and lunch on Thursday for all of us to interconnect in a “human-to-human” way.
