CHOCO'S TOY CHEST - Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What should I keep in mind when choosing toys and/or supplies to donate to CHOC?

A: Although our patients receive gifts during the holidays and for their birthdays, many of the donated items are given as rewards following a painful procedure or used in our playrooms and at the patient's bedside throughout the year. Items made of fabric and wood are no accepted as they cannot be cleaned or used repeatedly by our patients. Durable, manageable sized toys are most appropriate. Please adhere to our Wish List for items we accept.

Q: Where, when, and how do I deliver my donation?

A: Donations can be dropped off at the information desk in the main lobby Tuesday-Friday 10am-6pm and Saturdays 10am-2pm. Please park in the parking structure and bring your donation to the front desk. (click here for a map) You will be provided with a "Gift In Kind" form. Please take a moment to complete the donation form and take the top copy as your receipt.

Q: What about used toys?

A:

We are unable to accept used items due to infection control and the safety of our patients.

Q: Are donations tax deductible?

A: All donations will be receipted for your tax purposes. If you deliver your donation to the information desk, please complete the "Gift In Kind" form and keep the top copy for your records. You will also receive a tax information sheet at that time.

Q: May I deliver my gift directly to the patients?

A: We apologize, but because of concerns for patient confidentiality and infection control, our donors are not permitted to visit our patients.

Q: Will someone pick up my donation?

A: Due to staffing and transportation limitations, CHOC is not able to pick up your donation. Donations may be mailed to Children's Hospital of Orange County, 455 S. Main Street, Orange, CA 92868.

Q: May I donate sporting or other event tickets to patients and families?

A: We welcome ticket donations as least one week in advance of the event. The Child Life Department will distribute the tickets to the families. Please call 714-532-8473 to make arrangements. Please note, due to patient confidentiality tickets should be sent to the Child Life Department for distribution to families. Patient names cannot be given for 'will call' pick up.

Q: May I come perform for the patients?

A: Due to hospital policy we only allow professional groups over the age of 18 to perform. Please call the Child Life Department at 714-532-7995 to discuss if you are eligible.

Q: May I donate food and/or candy to the patients?

A: Due to dietary restrictions, we do not allow food donations.
