DR. LAM'S STORY

CHOC surgeon Dr. Vinh Lam vividly remembers the six weeks he spent as a child recuperating in a no-frills hospital in South Vietnam. He bears three thick, jagged scars - remnants of a horrible appendectomy. Partly due to that experience as a child, Dr. Lam is committed to ensuring his patients spend as little time in the hospital as possible. He is just one of a few pediatric surgeons worldwide who uses a robotic surgical system, bringing such benefits to the patients as a quicker recovery, less pain and smaller incisions. CHOC's robotics program is one of the largest in the world. Dr. Lam is proud of his role in that accomplishment and even more proud of his role in getting children out of the hospital and on the road to a healthy, fun childhood.
