When she was 7 years old, Janelle Garcia was in a car accident that brought her to CHOC, where specialists repaired her severed spleen. Nearly a decade later, Janelle found herself back at CHOC with severe pancreatitis; her liver and kidneys were beginning to shut down. She underwent a handful of surgeries, including one to repair a bowel obstruction and to remove her appendix, and spent two months in the hospital. She credits CHOC's gastroenterologists, Drs. Idries and Katz, and surgeons, Drs. Gibbs and Lam, with keeping her alive. Inspired by the physicians and nurses, Janelle made the decision to start a career with CHOC, and now works part-time with the specialists who saved her life. And, she's pursuing a nursing degree. Janelle will always be grateful for the care she received at CHOC and is even more grateful to be a new employee.
