Gastroenterology, or “gastrology,” is the medical specialty dealing with digestive diseases, including problems with the esophagus and stomach, liver and pancreas, small intestine and colon. Symptoms of digestive diseases often include constipation or diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and/or abdominal pain.
CHOC Gastroenterology physicians are available 24-hours-a-day, 7 days a week to help children experiencing chronic, painful or life-threatening symptoms. Our highly experienced pediatric gastroenterologists provide innovative, efficient treatment modalities to improve quality of life, and to reintegrate the child back to family and school activities as much, and as quickly, as possible. CHOC inpatient gastroenterology services are the only CCS-certified program serving the county. The Pediatric GI Motility Program is a center for the investigation and treatment of motor disturbances, as well as functional problems involving the gastrointestinal tract. We also partner with our allergy and immunology colleagues to provide a comprehensive eosinophilic esophagitis clinic.
