In the intern year, the primary focus is upon learning the basics of pediatric management. Development of communication skills between interns and patients, colleagues and outside physicians is a priority. The development of solid history and physical skills, basic therapeutic plan development and procedures are the goals of the interns. Interns are responsible for monthly lectures to the medical students. This is a series of 13 repeating lectures on basic pediatric topics given by the interns to the medical students working in the hospital each month. USMLE Step 3 will be completed this year.
