Coast Iron & Steel Donation Creates Endowment to Support Child Life
Coast Iron & Steel created a $50,000 endowment to support CHOC’s Child Life Department. Greg White, president of Coast Iron & Steel, wanted to support activities that help children cope with their healthcare experience. “Our son was treated in the CHOC NICU when he was a newborn,” Greg explains. “In appreciation for the care our family received during his treatment, we chose to create an endowment for the Child Life Department. We wanted to contribute to a program that directly benefits children, and Child Life was a perfect fit.” According to Emily Grankowski, manager of the CHOC Child Life Department, “our team uses therapeutic play, developmentally appropriate activities and creative art therapies to minimize the anxiety that our patients may be feeling. We are very grateful for the endowment created by Coast Iron & Steel, which is used to purchase craft supplies, hand-held DVD players, books and other items for our young patients.”
