Making their Mark for CHOC

Since 1973, the Employees Community Fund of Boeing California has steadily supported Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC)—donating more than $100,000 to programs such as Child Life and Complementary Alternative Medicine.

According to Margaret Burdeno, program officer for the Employees Community Fund of Boeing California, “thousands of Boeing employees live in Orange County and have or will have children visit CHOC for a variety of reasons. The Employees Community Fund of Boeing California proudly contributes monies donated by employees for programs like Child Life at CHOC. We are gratified to know that children from Orange County and their parents benefit from the wonderful variety of art, music, drama, pet therapy and other activities that the hospital provides.”

CHOC was the recipient of nearly $16,000 raised from proceeds of the 16th Annual Anime Charity Auction, held by the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA) last summer at the Anaheim Convention Center.

“We are thrilled to be able to donate proceeds from the Anime Charity Auction to CHOC for the third year in a row,” says Chase Wang, public relations director for the Anime Expo. “It’s also gratifying to know that the money we raised will go to KidsCARE, a fund that benefits the greatest needs at CHOC.”

Money Mailer LLC raised over $42,000 for CHOC last year. Money Mailer associates raise money through employee giving and events, and franchisees donate a portion of their advertising sales. More than 21 million homes nationwide received Money Mailer’s “Miracle” envelope to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.

According to Godfred Otuteye, president and CEO of Money Mailer, “the money we raise for Children’s Miracle Network is derived from mailings tied to our spring 2008 mailings. The mailing gives recipients an opportunity to donate money to Children’s Miracle Network, which ultimately benefits their local children’s hospital. We’re happy to be able to give back locally by helping our communities’ children.”

The Third Annual Credit Unions for Kids Wine Auction raised $40,000 for CHOC. The event raised over $190,000 for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals across California. According to Patrice Clark, Children’s Miracle Network manager at CHOC, “we are so grateful for the credit unions and associated organizations in Orange County that generously donated to make the event a success.”

“I’d like to thank SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union, Kinecta Federal Credit Union, Orange County’s Credit Union, California Agribusiness Credit Union, and the law offices of Thomas H. Wolfe,” Patrice continues. “I’d also like to acknowledge our corporate sponsors: California Credit Union League; CO-OP Financial Services; CUDL; CUNA Mutual Group; Financial Service Centers Cooperative, Inc.; and WesCorp.”
