Remarkable Things is an annual publication of the CHOC Foundation that is given to first-time donors. It provides a general overview of CHOC, features fun facts and CHOC firsts, and highlights patients, programs and services.

Remarkable "Firsts"
CHOC has earned a place in Orange County medical history. Below are just a few of the remarkable medical “firsts” that have taken place here:
- Orange County’s first bone marrow transplant
- The first children’s hospital in California to offer robotic surgery for children
- The first Orange County hospital to provide Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), a heart-lung bypass procedure used on newborns suffering from potentially fatal respiratory problems
- The first and only facility in the nation to use high-frequency ventilation while transporting critically ill children
- The first and only Orange County hospital to perform pediatric open heart surgery
- Orange County’s first and only dedicated pediatric hematology/oncology unit

- CHOC performs over 400 surgical, interventional and diagnostic heart procedures annually
- CHOC treats 95% of the kids in Orange County who have diabetes
- CHOC’s inpatient volume has doubled since 1998
- The number of babies treated in the CHOC Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has grown 95% since 1998
