Wal-Mart Celebrates 20 Years of Children's Miracle Network
On May 31, Wal-Mart celebrated 20 years of giving to Children?s Miracle Network with a party at Orange store #2546. The honoree of the day was ?Miracle Child? Sophia Colby, who was celebrating her third birthday. So far this year, Wal-Marts in Orange County have raised $74,895 for CHOC.
Exactly one year earlier, Sophia was in critical condition at CHOC. Her heart had stopped beating five separate times and she was battling severe septic shock. Sophia was born with Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis, an extremely rare and aggressive disease that causes the body?s own immune system to attack itself. Sophia has since made an amazing recovery.
Orange Wal-Mart store manager Greg Coggins and Larry Ezell, Market 333 Manager of Wal-Mart stores in Orange and San Bernardino counties, presented Sophia with birthday presents on behalf of the employees of Wal-Mart.
Mayor Carolyn V. Cavecche and Councilmember Denis Bilodeau, both of the City of Orange, also attended the event. According to Mayor Cavecche, ?the City of Orange is honored to be home to Children?s Hospital of Orange County?a world-class pediatric hospital. And, we are grateful to Wal-Mart for their generous community support and dedication to Children?s Miracle Network.?
Every dollar raised by Orange County Wal‑Mart stores through Children?s Miracle Network goes to CHOC to fund programs, research and equipment, and CHOC?s greatest needs.
