Now On Staff At CHOC
David Chun, M.D. Pediatric Cardiology
New pediatric cardiologist David Chun, M.D., says that his first love is fetal echocardiography, but he is exploring the possible pediatric cardiovascular applications of MRI. A large part of his fellowship training was spent on non-invasive imaging including transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, but especially fetal echocardiography. He says MRI imaging is very complementary to ultrasound imaging.
"MRI gives you great images, particularly in kids with post-operative scarring who may be difficult to image with ultrasound. It is very good for evaluating aortic arch abnormalities and quantifying right ventricular function," Dr. Chun says. "Another advantage is that MRI has zero radiation, unlike a CT Scan."
Board-certified in pediatrics and sub-boarded in pediatric cardiology, Dr. Chun received his fellowship training at W.J. Riley Hospital for Children, in Indianapolis. He completed his internship and residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine.
To contact Dr. Chun, please call Orange County Pediatric Cardiology Medical Group at 714-538-5558.
Eduardo Gallegos, M.D. Pediatric Neurology and Neuro-Oncology
Bringing greater bicultural understanding to the PSF Neurology Division is pediatric neurologist and neuro-oncologist Eduardo Gallegos, M.D. Dr. Gallegos was in private practice at Centro Medico del Noroeste, in Tijuana, prior to joining the CHOC medical staff. Seeing patients at both CHOC and CHOC at Mission, his clinical interests include behavioral neurology, mitochondrial metabolic disorders, video-EEG monitoring and epilepsy classification, and brain tumors.
"With my expertise in pediatric neurology and neuro-oncology, and the large population of Hispanics in both Orange and Los Angeles counties, I felt I could be of more service to this community" he says.
Dr. Gallegos completed an adult and pediatric neurology residency at Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and a neuro-oncology fellowship at Beth Israel Medical Center, in New York. He also completed a hematologyoncology fellowship at University of California, San Diego Medical Center.
To contact Dr. Gallegos, please call the CHOC PSF Neurology Division at 714-532-7601.
Minakshi V. Chaudhari, M.D. Pediatric Rheumatology
The CHOC PSF Rheumatology Division now has a third pediatric rheumatologist on board to help serve the needs of Southern California children. Joining Debra McCurdy, M.D., and Sheryl Boon, M.D., is Minakshi Chaudhari, M.D., who came to CHOC last September shortly after finishing her fellowship training. Her clinical interests encompass the full spectrum of rheumatoid diseases, especially the etiology and pathogenesis of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
Dr. Chaudhari completed her pediatric rheumatology fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, in Ohio, where she received a clinical research fellowship award in 2002. She served her internship and residency at Children's Hospital of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. A graduate of St. George's University School of Medicine, in Grenada, she also has a master's degree in epidemiology from the University of Cincinnati.
To contact Dr. Chaudhari, please call the CHOC PSF Rheumatology Division at 714-532-8617.
