"CANYON CRUISE FOR KIDS" ROARS THROUGH SOUTH COUNTY FOR CHOC AT MISSION PATIENTS

November 21, 2006

Approximately 100 motorcycle riders - many of them firefighters and police officers, plan to participate in the "Canyon Cruise for Kids" on the morning of Sunday, December 3rd to benefit patients at CHOC at Mission. The ride, which is about 25 miles, is a no fee ride, but organizers ask that participants make a monetary donation, or donate a new, unwrapped toy to CHOC at Mission. The line up will start at 9 a.m. at the Daily Sports Grill (29881 Aventura in Rancho Santa Margarita), with the first riders departing by 9:45 a.m. for the hospital (27700 Medical Center Road in Mission Viejo).

"Canyon Cruise for Kids" is being organized by Scott Bissonnette, a Rancho Santa Margarita firefighter, who has also arranged to have Big John - the Talking Fire Engine lead the procession. Participants are welcome and can learn more by calling 949-582-9260.

About CHOC at Mission

CHOC at Mission, developed by Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) in collaboration with Mission Hospital, is housed in a state-of-the-art medical facility on the 5th floor of Mission Hospital’s patient care tower. While it operates as a separately licensed facility with its own medical staff, CHOC at Mission is linked to Mission Hospital’s regional trauma center, high-level obstetric and perinatal program, and ancillary services. The 48-bed “children's hospital-within-a-hospital” serves as the only dedicated pediatric health care center for families in the communities throughout South Orange County, coastal areas and North San Diego.

CHOC Children's is exclusively committed to the health and well-being of children through clinical expertise, advocacy, outreach and research that brings advanced treatment to pediatric patients. Affiliated with the University of California, Irvine, CHOC’s regional healthcare network includes two state-of-the-art hospitals in Orange and Mission Viejo, several primary and specialty care clinics, a pediatric residency program, and four centers of excellence - The CHOC Children’s Heart, Cancer, Neuroscience, and Orthopaedic Institutes.

CHOC is one of only eight children’s hospitals in the nation named a “2009 Leapfrog Top Hospital.” CHOC earned the Silver Level CAPE Award from the California Council of Excellence, the only children’s hospital in California to ever earn this distinction, and was awarded Magnet designation, the highest honor bestowed to hospitals for nursing excellence.  Recognized for extraordinary commitment to high-quality critical care standards, CHOC is the first children’s hospital in the United States to earn the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence.
