Kerri Ruppert Schiller
Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Kerri Ruppert Schiller, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, is responsible for the leadership, management and direction of all financial operations for CHOC Children’s Hospital (CHOC), CHOC Children’s at Mission Hospital, CHOC Children’s Foundation, Children’s HealthCare of California and its real estate holding companies.

Before Kerri joined CHOC in 1998, the organization had suffered the largest operating loss in its history. By tightening financial controls, renegotiating better contracts with insurance payors and medical groups, and implementing strategic initiatives, she helped to turn the $19 million loss into an operating gain of $4.9 million by the fiscal year ended June 30, 2000. Revenues increased 215% during the first 10 years of her financial leadership, with market share increasing from 56% to 68% in the five-year period ended 2008.

Kerri has been the driving force behind a multi-year Information Systems Strategy Plan that places CHOC at the forefront of technology in the healthcare field. Part of that effort included her support and implementation of a computerized physician order entry system, making CHOC a national leader in advanced technology for patient safety and quality. These advances contributed to several prestigious honors for CHOC, including being designated a Magnet hospital, receiving the Gold Level CAPE Award for performance excellence, and being named a 2011 Leapfrog Top Children’s Hospital.

More recently, Kerri has been intricately involved with the Master Plan for CHOC comprising multiple construction projects designed to sustain current and future needs of the communities served by CHOC. As a component of funding each phase of the Master Plan, under Kerri’s leadership CHOC issued several offerings of tax exempt revenue bonds; the most recent in 2009 in the amount of $267.4 million and in 2011 for an additional $139.5 million as funding mechanisms for the seven-story patient care tower scheduled to open in Spring 2013.

For the 10 years prior to joining CHOC, Kerri served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Comprehensive Care Corporation, an NYSE national for-profit organization engaged in the ownership, operation and management of freestanding facilities and the management of in-hospital programs. She received her bachelor's degree in Accounting from California State University, Fullerton. She is a current Board member and Chair Emeritus of the California State University Fullerton (CSUF) Philanthropic Foundation, Chair of the Nursing Initiative Committee, and a member of the CSUF Blue Ribbon Committee, Front & Center Committee, and 50 Women of Distinction organization.

Kerri is a past member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Children’s Hospitals (NACH); a past Board member and Chair of the Audit Committee of the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI); and a current Board member of Orange County Foundation for Medical Care. She is also a member of the Hospital Association of Southern California CalOPTIMA Managed Care Subcommittee, Healthcare Financial Management Association, and past Secretary/Treasurer of the California Children’s Hospital Association.

Kerri was named Outstanding CFO of a Non-Profit Organization by the Orange County Business Journal and CalCPA in 2010.
