This year, CHOC Follies XVI, the annual original musical comedy production that raises funds for CHOC Children’s, will present “VIVA CHOC-VEGAS, Guys Gals & Romance in the Land of Lady Luck,” a unique and contemporary twist on “Guys and Dolls” and “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
The Follies has netted nearly $6 million dollars for the hospital over the past 16 years, thanks to cast members and, in particular, Founder and Executive Producer, Gloria Zigner. She was honored at the 13th Annual Orange County Arts Awards in September for her exemplary work with the CHOC Follies, and was presented with the Helena Modjeska Cultural Legacy Award for Community Visionary.
“This year’s show packs a delicious mix of Broadway favorites and contemporary chart toppers – what could be more fun? One hundred people will be having the time of their lives, singing and dancing for a wonderful cause,” said Zigner. “As with all prior CHOC Follies shows, we do hold auditions – but don’t panic! We don’t expect all of our cast members to have ‘showbiz’ or even singing and dancing experience.”
These are “group” auditions, and are very low key and simple. The philosophy is “if you can walk, you can dance; if you can talk, you can sing!” For the past 15 years, Director John Vaughn and his amazing team have made everyone in the entire CHOC Follies cast shine!
However, for those who do have some special talents and would like to audition for singing or dancing roles, solo auditions will be held immediately following the group audition. Solo auditions should be no more than 60 seconds long. Community members auditioning for a solo spot need to bring their own sheet music or background tape.
Potential cast members may choose to attend one of two audition dates: Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 10 a.m. OR on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at the:
The Island Hotel (free valet parking)
690 Newport Center Drive
CHOC Follies is a fundraiser for CHOC Children’s. Each cast member must make a commitment to raise a minimum of $1,000, either in sponsorships or in ticket and/or ad sales. Performances of “VIVA CHOC-VEGAS, Guys Gals & Romance in the Land of Lady Luck” will be held in the Robert B. Moore Theatre at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, on March 28, 29 and 30, 2013.
