CHOC CHILDREN'S RECEIVES $100,000 GIFT FROM THE UEBERROTH FAMILY FOUNDATION
December 06, 2011

CHOC Children’s has received a $100,000 donation from the Ueberroth Family Foundation to name one of the hematology/oncology rooms on the fifth floor of CHOC’s new patient care tower, set to open in Spring 2013.

The fifth floor will feature 28 private hematology/oncology rooms. Private rooms reduce the spread of infection, and allow physicians, nurses and other hospital staff to focus more intently on individual patient needs.  The rooms will be “same-handed.” Just as identical cockpit design is essential to aircraft safety, “same-handed” rooms will help minimize the potential for human error.  Each patient room will be identical, with supplies and equipment located in exactly the same place, helping staff become oriented to the environment.

CHOC’s 425,000-square-foot tower will house new and advanced pediatric services, including an emergency department, operating rooms, laboratory, pathology and imaging services – all with a dedicated pediatric environment and staff. It incorporates the most advanced design and safety principles of any other children’s hospital in the nation, as well as enhanced patient and family amenities to create a serene, healing environment for children.

Regarding the Ueberroth Family Foundation’s support of the new tower, Ginny Ueberroth says, “CHOC is an important asset in our community that fulfills a critical need. We feel privileged to support the exciting build-out of CHOC’s new tower.”

For more information about CHOC’s new tower, including ways to support its construction and the “Change CHOC, Change the World” campaign, call the CHOC Children’s Foundation at 714-532-8690 or visit www.choc.org/giving.

Ueberroth Family Foundation - Since its inception in 1984 by Virginia and Peter Ueberroth, the Ueberroth Family Foundation’s objective has been to provide a vehicle for the Ueberroth family to give back to their local Orange County communities.  Personal involvement is an important factor in gift decisions.  Charitable organizations focused on youth, education and cancer are the primary beneficiaries.
