CHOC Children’s announces the appointment of Lyn Ames to the position of Administrative Director of Perioperative Services. A result of a nationwide recruitment effort, Ames will develop and oversee operations for the Robert L. Tidwell Surgery Center in CHOC’s new tower, set to open Spring 2013.
An award-wining healthcare leader with more than 35 years of experience in process improvement and operational efficiency in surgical settings, Ames has been a registered nurse for 25 years. Ames specializes in the assessment and implementation of nursing operational activities and providing operating room (OR) leadership. She’s achieved significant cost-reductions and completed renovation and construction projects for various hospitals, including Emerson Hospital in Massachusetts where she oversaw a $150 million renovation and construction project. At CHOC she’s leading the planning and development of the surgical center in the hospital’s new tower. Her expertise in nursing and surgery professional staffing; technology; design; training and development functions will ensure the new pediatric operating rooms will provide the safest, most advanced care for children. The surgery suites will be located on the third floor and feature seven operating rooms.

Most recently, Ames served as the Executive Director of Surgical Services and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for Milton Hospital in Massachusetts, where she played a key role in enhancing pediatric and adult surgical services and led a multi-million dollar surgical wing construction project. She’s received numerous academic and professional honors, and is the recipient of multiple President’s Award for Excellence.
Ames holds multiple healthcare certifications and credentials. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Redlands, and a master’s degree in health care management and hospital administration from California State University, Los Angeles.
