CHOC CHILDREN'S NURSE RECEIVES CHRIS STEWART-AMIDEI WRITING EXCELLENCE AWARD
March 25, 2010

CHOC Children’s Clinical Nurse Specialist Jennifer Cohen, MSN, CNS, RN, CNRN, CCRN, was awarded the Chris-Stewart Amidei Writing Excellence Award from the Journal of Neuroscience Nursing (JNN) for her article “Interrater Reliability and Predictive Validity of the FOUR Score Coma Scale in a Pediatric Population.”  The award is given annually to the published manuscript judged “best” by members of the JNN’s Manuscript Peer Review Panel, Editorial Board, and Editor-in-Chief V. Susan Carroll, MS, RN, CNE.

Cohen, who works in CHOC’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, was recognized in Baltimore on Sunday, March 21st, at the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses’ 42nd Annual Educational Meeting. Her award-winning manuscript – the first nursing research study to evaluate a new neurological assessment tool for use among the pediatric population - was evaluated in terms of relevance to neuroscience practice, importance, logical development, clarity of the written work, and consistency with the mission and vision of the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses.
