CHOC PHYSICIAN STANLEY GALANT NAMED 2007 "HOSPITAL HERO"
December 07, 2007

Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) is pleased to announce that Dr. Stanley Galant was recently named a 2007 Hospital Hero by the Hospital Association of Southern California. Dr. Galant was one of five health care professionals from Southern California recently honored for their "heroic" professional achievements at the Hospital Hero Awards Luncheon at the Baltimore Hotel in Los Angeles.

Dr. Galant tirelessly worked to bring the CHOC Breathmobile®, a fully equipped mobile asthma treatment unit, to the children and families of Orange County. Since he achieved that vision in 2003, more than 6,000 children have been seen and more than 2,000 have been treated for asthma. Many of these patients were undiagnosed before coming to the Breathmobile®. The number of hospitalizations, emergency room visits and missed school days experienced by these patients has also decreased significantly.

The success of the CHOC Breathmobile® program resulted in Dr. Galant's determination to add a second unit this year. The second unit expands coverage to additional school and community sites, enhancing access to comprehensive, specialized asthma care to under insured children in Orange County.

Dr. Galant's compassion for children and his dedication to ensuring every child has access to quality medical care is demonstrated when he says, "The patient is always the most important part of what we do. Children must be treated - no matter what!"
