CHOC RECEIVES ANOTHER TOP SCORE IN QUALITY AND SAFETY PRACTICES FROM THE LEAPFROG GROUP
July 25, 2007

Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) earned a top score in The Leapfrog Group's Hospital Quality and Safety Survey’s National Quality Forum (NQF) “Safe Practices” section. The hospital earned an overall point total of 988 out of 1,000 and ranks 23rd out of 1,216 hospitals that participated. The NQF reviews 30 practices that should be universally used in applicable clinical care settings to reduce the risk of harm to patients, including Computer Physician Order Entry (CPOE), ICU physician staffing and Evidence-Based Hospital Referral for certain high-risk procedures. The NQF “Safe Practices” section aims to recognize a more expansive set of hospitals’ quality and safety activities, and bring more information to consumers about the level of safety they can expect.

“CHOC appreciates The Leapfrog Group’s role in providing consumers with comparative data that aids them in selecting the best health care available,” says CHOC’s Executive Director of Quality, Beth Rowett. “Parents can be assured that patient safety is one of CHOC's highest priorities."

The NQF “Safe Practices” section is part of The Leapfrog Group's Hospital Quality and Safety Survey, a national rating system that offers a broad assessment of a hospital's quality and safety. Last year, CHOC was named to the Leapfrog “Top Hospitals 2006” list.
