ORANGE COUNTY’S OFFICIAL OSCAR NIGHT® PARTY BENEFITS CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL OF ORANGE COUNTY
March 13, 2006

The magic and excitement of Oscar Night® and the 78th Academy Awards® that took place on Sunday, March 5, 2006, was experienced by hundreds at Orange County’s first-ever Academy-sanctioned Oscar Night® America party held in the Grand Ballroom of the Disneyland Hotel. This event put on by the CHOC Padrinos, a fundraising group, raised over $120,000 for Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) and CHOC at Mission, surpassing last year’s amount of $75,000.

Tammy Jager Peasley, event co-chairperson said, “Last year, the event raised over $75,000, the largest amount in the event’s history. We are so excited to have almost doubled that amount this year!”

The Orange County audience enjoyed viewing the Academy Awards® telecast, courtesy of KABC-TV, the local affiliate of the ABC Television Network which broadcasted the Academy Awards® presentation, on large screens provided by the Padrinos. ABC and the Academy cooperated for the 13th year with local charities to support these official Oscar Night® viewing parties. This year marks the first year that the Orange County party has been officially sanctioned by the Academy, and the 11th year that the CHOC Padrinos have hosted an Academy Award Gala to benefit CHOC and CHOC at Mission. The party is one of 46 official parties that was held across the country on Oscar Night®.

“Watching the Academy Awards show is one of the great American traditions,” said Academy Executive Director Bruce Davis. “Since the public can’t come to Los Angeles to attend the Awards presentation, we created Oscar Night America, which allows these local parties to tie into the excitement of Oscar Night and to support some very worthy causes.”

Official Oscar Night® parties last year raised over $2.2 million for local charities in 44 cities. All money raised stays in the community; none of it goes to the Academy.

“We are so very grateful for all of our dedicated sponsors and attendees who helped to make this even such a grand success,” said Marty Morris, event co-chairperson.

In addition, guests were made to feel like stars themselves by enjoying a glamour-filled evening that included a gourmet dinner and a “Predict the Winners” contest where attendees had the opportunity to predict the Oscar® winners and receive fabulous prizes. Other festivities included live and silent auctions featuring exclusive vacations, event tickets, restaurant packages and more.
