Neuromuscular Disease Program
Program Director: Samuel Rosenfeld, M.D.
Through this innovative program, our orthopaedic specialists partner with the CHOC Neuroscience Institute to provide evaluation and treatment of children with a variety of neuromuscular conditions. This wide-ranging program offers on-site specialty clinics including Spina Bifida, Hypertonicity and Neuromuscular Disease.
CHOC received a clinic designation from the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) to evaluate, diagnose and treat children with muscle disease. Through our affiliation with the MDA, we’re able to offer a lot of MDA resources to our patients—including a MDA liaison in each clinic session. Our clinic team includes an orthopaedic surgeon, a pediatric neurologist, an orthotist, and a specialty nurse.
Our patients also have access to CHOC rehabilitation therapists, child life services, pain specialists, pet therapy and social services. Case managers and financial coordinators assist in obtaining rehabilitation therapy and equipment for home care, if it’s needed.
There are more than 30 different Neuromuscular Diseases recognized by MDA that can be seen and treated at the CHOC Neuromuscular Clinic. For more information about neuromuscular diseases in the MDA program, click here.
