Kudos: Accomplishments in Advancing Healthcare in Orange County
Two leading women at CHOC Children’s Hospital recently were named among Becker’s Hospital Review’s “120 Women Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know” list for 2012.
Kimberly Chavalas Cripe, who recently celebrated her 20th anniversary at CHOC’s with 15 years serving as president and CEO, was recognized for elevating CHOC to a premier, nationally recognized children’s hospitals.
Cripe served on various healthcare associations; was appointed a commissioner for the Children and Families Commission of Orange County; and won numerous awards, including the 2012 Champion of Children award and recognition as Orange County’s “Most Trustworthy Leader.”
Kerri Ruppert Schiller, CHOC’s CFO, was recognized for helping to turn the hospital’s record loss into an operating gain of $4.9 million by the fiscal year ended June 30, 2000. Revenues rose 215 percent during the first 10 years of Schiller’s leadership, with market share increasing from 56 percent to 68 percent in the five-year period ended 2008.
Schiller recently was named “Outstanding CFO of a non-profit organization” by the Orange County Business Journal and CalCPA.
Becker’s Hospital Review said all women featured in the list have led their organizations in a challenging healthcare environment.
“Despite times of uncertainty and unprecedented change in the industry, they have demonstrated considerable skill and promise in the areas of hospital operations, financial turnarounds and quality improvement initiatives,” the review noted. “As a result, the Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team finds them as women to watch now and in the years to come.”
