FAMILY AUTISM NETWORK PROVIDES ONE-STOP RESOURCE FOR ORANGE COUNTY FAMILIES IMPACTED BY AUTISM
April 24, 2009

The Family Autism Network, a collaboration of two CHOC Children’s and UC Irvine neurodevelopmental programs and the Grandparent Autism Network, announced its opening on April 22, 2009.  The Family Autism Network is dedicated to providing families impacted by autism with the information, resources and support needed to cope with the disorder. Specifically, families will be connected with intervention services, treatment options, educational and recreational opportunities.

CHOC Children’s involvement with the Family Autism Network stems from two CHOC/UC Irvine programs for Orange County children ages 5 and under:  For OC Kids Neurodevelopmental Center, which provides evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, support, and education for children who have a wide range of developmental disorders; and Help Me Grow Orange County, which connects children and families who have developmental and behavioral concerns with community resources. The Grandparent Autism Network (GAN) is a third partner in this unique collaboration.  GAN is a volunteer-based nonprofit organization that informs grandparents about autism and raises awareness and support for autism. The Family Autism Network will expand upon the resources provided by these groups, and serve as a central source for information for all families.
