CHOC ANNOUNCES NEW PHYSICIAN LEADERSHIP
April 14, 2009

CHOC Children’s is pleased to announce new physician appointments, which are intended to strengthen the delivery of the healthcare system’s tertiary/quaternary pediatric care and to help fulfill the vision of the recent formal affiliation between CHOC and UC Irvine.

Dr. Nick Anas, medical director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at CHOC Children’s Hospital, has been named Pediatrician-in-Chief.  Together with Dr. Feizal Waffarn, chair of the Department of Pediatrics at UC Irvine’s School of Medicine, Dr. Anas will provide physician leadership and oversee the continued execution of the affiliation between CHOC and UC Irvine.

Additionally, Dr. Ali Kavianian, a pediatric general surgeon who has served on CHOC’s medical staff since 1983 and is a former chair of the hospital’s Department of Surgery, has been appointed Surgeon-in-Chief.  In this newly created position, Dr. Kavianian will provide leadership for pediatric surgical services, helping to enhance high-quality care and patient safety.  He will also play a critical role in the hospital’s master planning process, which includes the addition of pediatric surgical suites and ancillary services in a new hospital tower set to open in 2013.
