CHOC CHILDREN'S WINS VENTANA RESEARCH 2008 BUSINESS PERFORMANCE LEADERSHIP AWARD
October 08, 2008

CHOC Children’s is the proud recipient of the Ventana Research 2008 Overall Business Performance Leadership Award.    The Ventana Research Performance Management Leadership Awards recognize organizations that have demonstrated leadership in orchestrating people, process, information and technology for optimum business impact.  More information can be found at www.ventanaresearch.com.

Since its founding in 1964, CHOC Children’s has grown from a community hospital to a large, regional referral center for the most critically ill and injured children.  Through the leadership of Beth Rowett, Vice President, Quality, CHOC Children’s has creatively configured and leveraged ActiveStrategy software to measure performance in key areas of operation with a framework of over 100 balanced scorecards that cascade directly from the organization’s strategic plan.

Rowett explains, “CHOC Children’s has consistently worked to deploy systematic improvement processes to optimize our capacity to provide world-class medical care to children.  Our quality initiative is deeply rooted in patient outcomes.  Aligning the entire organization against measurable outcomes ensures that nothing stands in the way of our ability to provide high-quality care to children who need it.”

About CHOC Children's: Named one of the best children’s hospitals by U.S. News & World Report (2014-2015) and a 2013 Leapfrog Top Hospital, CHOC Children's is exclusively committed to the health and well-being of children through clinical expertise, advocacy, outreach and research that brings advanced treatment to pediatric patients. Affiliated with the University of California, Irvine, CHOC’s regional health care network includes two state-of-the-art hospitals in Orange and Mission Viejo, several primary and specialty care clinics, a pediatric residency program, and four centers of excellence - The CHOC Children’s Heart, Neuroscience, Orthopaedic and Hyundai Cancer Institutes.

CHOC earned the Gold Level CAPE Award from the California Council of Excellence, the only children’s hospital in California to ever earn this distinction, and was awarded Magnet designation, the highest honor bestowed to hospitals for nursing excellence.  Recognized for extraordinary commitment to high-quality critical care standards, CHOC’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is the first in the United States to earn the Pediatric Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence.
