CHOC APPOINTS NEW MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF HEART INSTITUTE

Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) recently appointed Mark S. Bleiweis, M.D., to the position of medical director of the CHOC Heart Institute. Dr. Bleiweis' clinical interests and expertise include the operative and perioperative management of neonates, treatment of the single ventricle, thoracic transplantation, and complex valvular problems. He was also the lead cardiothoracic surgeon in the successful separation of conjoined twins and the treatment of complex congenital heart disease in one of these children.

Dr. Bleiweis comes to CHOC from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, were he served as assistant professor of surgery for the division of cardiothoracic surgery. He received his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego and completed his thoracic residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Following his residency, Dr. Bleiweis fulfilled a fellowship in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, where he trained with the renowned Dr. Frank L. Hanley.
