Introduction
Even before Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) opened its doors in 1964, the first women’s Guild, Mother Goose of Fullerton, was formed in 1962. Now 11 more Guilds and one teenage group make up the Guild structure. The Guilds are located in different geographical regions throughout Orange County. Total membership is approximately 1000 women in various categories of membership including active, provisional, associate, sustaining, patron and life members. Guild membership is a family tradition in many Orange County homes with grandmothers, daughters and granddaughters all part of their local Guild.
Purpose
The purpose of the Guilds is to raise the community’s awareness of Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) and CHOC at Mission in Mission Viejo as well as to raise much needed funds in support of CHOC’s mission to nurture, advance and protect the health and well-being of children.
Support
The Guilds have strong community support. Genuine teamwork exists between the hospitals and the Guilds. They have supported all areas of growth at CHOC including financial contributions to the new hospital building that opened in 1991, the neighborhood clinics, CHOC at Mission and other areas of need when requested. Since the first Guild was formed in 1962, they have contributed more than $28 million.
Fundraising Methods and Results
The Guilds raise money in a variety of ways and have been active in community events since their formation including the annual CHOC/Disneyland Resort Walk. In addition, Guilds organize fund-raising events such as fashion shows, golf tournaments, dinner dances, home tours, boutiques, theme parties and other special events that appeal to their membership and constituencies.
Their expertise is exceptional! Training in fundraising, leadership, and legal/tax regulations is held for members accepting Guild officer positions. Thousands of friends and acquaintances help support their fundraising efforts. The Guilds have continued to support CHOC with outstanding dedication and financial contributions for more than 45 years. They deserve the community recognition they receive as an outstanding philanthropic organization.
