The CHOC Signature Initiatives Overview
The CHOC Signature Initiatives will help to care for the children of Orange County by responding to the pressures of growth, adding new dimensions of quality to existing programs, and promoting CHOC’s nationwide leadership in pediatrics.
Individual Initiatives:
New Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) will stay ahead of skyrocketing demand; a new Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit will spearhead a model of care that focuses on the entire family.
Leadership Endowments will secure the future, making it possible for selected CHOC programs to assume a national role in patient care.
Next Generation Fellowships will train physicians for the future – and help to remedy the disturbing shortage of pediatric physicians.
Nursing Excellence Incentives will add to successful efforts that recruit, develop, retain – and reward – outstanding nurses.
Outpatient Clinic Renovation will maximize convenience for patients and families; growth in patient volume is projected to be more than 120,000 visits per year by 2010.
New CHOC at Mission Emergency Department improves emergency care for kids in the fast-growing South County area. Features comforting surroundings, advanced monitoring equipment, and a Child Life program.
New Adolescent Cancer Care Suite will be an environment tailored to the medical and social needs of an age group too often overlooked by traditional cancer care settings.
Child Life Program successfully reduces the understandable stress that kids – and their parents – often experience at hospitals.
CHOC Breathmobile™ travels to schools throughout Orange County, offering screening and follow-up care aimed at asthma, the most common chronic disease among children.
kidsCARE Fund is indispensable to Clinical care, Advancement, Research, and Education. “Unrestricted” gifts are essential for ongoing support where the need is greatest.
