History
Even before Children's
Hospital of Orange County opened its doors in 1964, the first support
group, Mother Goose Guild of Fullerton, was formed in 1962. Guild
membership is a family tradition in many Orange County homes with
grandmothers, daughters and granddaughters all part of their
local guild.
Purpose
The purpose of the guilds is to acquaint the community with the
mission of Children's Hospital of Orange County in Orange and Children's
Hospital at Mission in Mission Viejo and to raise money for the
many needs of the hospitals and outpatient clinics and services.
Support
The guilds have strong community support. Genuine teamwork exists
between the hospitals and the guilds. They have supported all
areas
of growth at CHOC including financial contributions to the new
hospital building, which opened in 1991, the neighborhood clinics,
Children's
Hospital at Mission and other areas of need when requested.
Support Fund-raising Methods and Results
The guilds raise money in a variety of ways. All guilds sell Christmas
and holiday cards. They work together on the All Guilds Fashion
Show and the CHOC/Disneyland Community Walk. In addition, guilds
produce fundraising events such as golf tournaments, dinner dances,
road rallies, home tours, boutiques, art auctions, theme parties
and other special events that appeal to their membership and constituencies.
The Guilds have been active in community events since their formation.
The grand opening of Neiman Marcus in Fashion Island, The Registry
Hotel in Irvine, the grand opening of MainPlace in Santa Ana and
the grand opening of Bloomingdale's in Fashion Island are just a
few of the significant events through which they have raised money
for CHOC. Their expertise is exceptional! Training in fund raising,
leadership, and legal/tax regulations is held for members accepting
guild officer positions. Thousands of friends and acquaintances
help support their fundraising efforts. The guilds have continued
to support CHOC with outstanding dedication and financial contributions
for more than 40 years. They deserve the community recognition they
receive as outstanding philanthropic organizations.
