Dr. Samuel Rosenfeld is a CHOC Children’s Orthopaedic Surgeon board-certified in Orthopaedic Surgery, specializing in Spina Bifida, Muscular Dystrophy, Scoliosis, Cerebral Palsy, Hydrocephalus, Spasticity, other pediatric neuromuscular diseases and rehabilitation. Dr. Rosenfeld is a national expert in pediatric neuromuscular diseases and is the Director of the Spina Bifida Clinic, Muscular Dystrophy Clinic and Spasticity Clinic at CHOC Children’s in Orange County, California, as well as the Director of the Spina Bifida Clinic at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in Downey, California. Dr. Rosenfeld has been an active staff member at CHOC Children’s Orange County and CHOC Children’s at Mission, Mission Viejo, California for over 25 years. Dr. Rosenfeld is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of California, Irvine.Dr. Rosenfeld received his medical degree from the Pennsylvania State University, College of Medicine. He completed an internship in general surgery at UC Irvine Medical Center in Irvine, California followed by a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at UC Irvine Medical Center. Dr. Rosenfeld served his fellowship in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in Downey, California.
Dr. Rosenfeld has provided leadership expertise and has served as President of the Medical Staff at CHOC Children’s Orange County, as well as leadership roles in the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Spina Bifida Association, Muscular Dystrophy Association, and Clinical Faculty Department of Orthopedic Surgery, UC Irvine. Dr. Rosenfeld is affiliated with Adult & Pediatric Orthopaedic Specialists Medical Group, American Medical Association, Orange County Medical Association, California Medical Association, California Orthopaedic Association, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, Western Orthopaedic Association, American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine, Society for Research into Hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida, American Orthopaedic Association and the Association of Children’s Prosthetic-Orthotic Clinics.
Dr. Rosenfeld has pioneered a new era with the use of the PRECISE “precise and gentle” remote control device, with minimal incision surgery, to perform limb lengthening, and was the first Orthopedic Surgeon on the west coast to perform the procedure. In addition to providing a less invasive procedure for limb lengthening, the device has been recognized for significantly reducing the potential for complications, such as infections, during the healing process. Presently, the device is used for lengthening the femur and tibia bones. Dr. Rosenfeld has been named a “Physician of Excellence” from the Orange County Medical Association multiple years running.
