Physician / Researcher Bio

As Director of the Pediatric Critical Care Program at CHOC Children’s, Nick Anas, M.D., leads the remarkable team that treats and protects children suffering from acute, life-threatening illnesses and injuries. Dr. Anas has specialized expertise in the treatment of acute respiratory failure, apnea and SIDS. He completed his fellowship training at the University of Rochester and his pediatric training at the Children’s Medical Center, Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas where he also spent a year as the Chief Resident. Dr. Anas received his medical degree from the West Virginia University in Morgantown, Virginia. He is board certified in both Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and Pediatric Pulmonology.

Dr. Anas currently serves as the CHOC Pediatrician-in-Chief, a position he has held since 2009. Dr. Anas has committed his career to developing and maintaining a Critical Care Program at CHOC defined by clinical excellence and an uncompromising commitment to providing the best care available anywhere in the world to the children and families we serve. Dr. Anas is actively involved in clinical research, contributing to medical journals and textbooks, and training residents and fellows to be tomorrow’s leaders in the field of Pediatric Critical Care. Indeed, Dr. Anas has trained many of the Medical Directors and leaders of Pediatric Critical Care Units across the United States.

Dr. Anas has also served as a member of the CHOC Board of Directors; as the Chair of the CHOC Children’s Specialists for over a decade and current member of the CHOC Children's Specialist Board, in addition to a variety of other posts. He currently serves as a clinical Professor of Pediatrics for the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California Los Angeles and as Associate Clinical Professor, Pediatrics at UC Irvine School of Medicine.

Dr. Anas has received many awards and honors, including being named one of the Top Doctors for 2009, 2010 and 2011 by Orange Coast Magazine. He feels a strong personal commitment to the children and parents of Orange County.
