Physician / Researcher BioGeetha Puthenveetil, MD specializes in all aspects of hematology with emphasis in hemoglobinopathies, including Beta Thalassemia and Sickle Cell disease. Dr. Puthenveetil is board certified in pediatrics and in pediatric hematology-oncology. She received her medical degree from St. John's Medical College in Karnataka, India. She completed pediatric residency training at St. John's Medical College Hospital and at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. She completed a pediatric hematology-oncology fellowship at Children's Hospital Los Angeles/University of Southern California.
ResearchDr. Putheveetil is part of the national sickle cell network. She is currently part of an international study looking at standards of care with sickle cell patients. Helping to facilitate this research, Dr. Putheveetil established a comprehensive red cell clinic at CHOC to treat patients with red cell disorders—including sickle cell disease, thalassemia, aplastic anemia, and Diamond-Blackfan Anemia. The clinic is attended by a cardiologist, endocrinologist, and hematologist and provides comprehensive care for patients.
