Pulse Oximetry Screening in Newborns: More than Just a Bunch of Numbers

Outcomes: At the conclusion of this presentation, the physician learner will be able to:
1.Use Pulse Oximetry test to screen newborns for congenital heart disease, especially preterm infants, prior to hospital discharge (AB1195).
2.Interpret Pulse Oximetry results and identify normal vs. abnormal.
3.Realize that Pulse Oximetry does not rule out some congenital heart disease.
4.Determine when to refer to cardiologist.

Target Audience: Primary care pediatricians. Family practitioners, Pediatric subspecialists, Pediatric residents and other healthcare professionals involved in the delivery of care to infants and children are also invited.

Accreditation: CHOC is accredited by the Institute for Medical Quality/California Medical Association (IMQ/CMA) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation: CHOC designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 hour of AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.  

This credit may also be applied to the CMA Certification in Continuing Medical Education.
