CHOC CHERISHES CHILDREN 2013

When plans for a Children’s Hospital of Orange County were in the formative stages, Orange County was experiencing a phenomenal period of growth and prosperity. The decade of the 1960s saw construction of many of the County’s famous landmarks. The University of California at Irvine was dedicated in 1964, the California Angels moved to Anaheim Stadium in 1966, and jets took off for the first time from the newly modernized Orange County Airport. What Orange County did not have was a regional medical facility dedicated to caring for the specialized needs of children.

CHOC opened its doors to the children of Orange County on October 5, 1964. In CHOC’s first three year’s of existence the hospital treated over 11,000 children, today that number has grown to over 230,000.

As CHOC continues toward its vision of becoming a Top 10, premier children’s hospital, it looks back with pride on its contributions to the welfare of the children of Orange County. CHOC is taking action for transformative change—growing from a crucial regional pediatric care center to one of the nation’s leading children’s hospitals. To achieve this goal, CHOC launched Change CHOC, Change the World—a comprehensive fundraising campaign to support the advancement of the hospital and build a state-of-the-art pediatric medical facility.

The CHOC Cherishes Children Gala is more than a fabulous dinner, night of dancing and incredible live auction; it’s an evening honoring the miracles CHOC creates every day by looking back at what CHOC has accomplished and looking forward to “A Future Built on Hope.”
