Clinical trials increase treatment options for children for whom conventional therapy has failed, or who have conditions for which no standard therapy is available. CHOC Children's is proud to have committed, highly-trained subspecialty physicians, certified clinical research coordinators, research nurses, administrators and ancillary staff to ensure that all research activities protect patient's rights, are conducted according to approved scientific protocol, and comply with federal and state regulations.
Currently CHOC is involved with numerous ongoing clinical trials, specifically in the areas of infectious disease, critical care, endocrinology, pulmonology, oncology, hematology, rheumatology and gastroenterology. Current clinical research protocols examine the safety and efficacy of new medications, vaccines and devices, and include quality of life assessments developed in an on-going effort to address the physical and emotional needs of our pediatric patients.
We are also proud that through our membership in the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), we have received a prestigious Phase I clinical trial designation, making us a part of an elite group of facilities in North America offering COG's groundbreaking alternative treatments. (To learn about current Phase I clinical trials at CHOC, please visit www.choc.org/research.)
Our clinical researchers have access to a wide demographic of pediatric patients and the opportunity to work side-by-side with physicians from top programs across the country who regularly complete vigorous credentialing processes. We offer customer-service, quality-based clinical studies and strive daily to better understand the complex underpinnings of childhood diseases.
