The CHOC Children's Department of Pharmacy Services is proud to offer a one-year Pharmacy Practice Residency in Pediatrics. This program is designed to provide candidates with a solid foundation in pharmacy practice, direct patient care, drug information and policy development and practice management skills in a pediatric setting. Our residency was designed using ASHP’s Residency Learning System (RLS) and utilizes the goals and objectives designed within this program.
Clinical specialists in their respective practice areas serve as mentors and preceptors to the resident. The program features nine months of required rotations (including pharmacy operations, drug information, pharmacy management, general pediatrics, general surgery, infectious diseases, oncology, neonatal intensive care and pediatric intensive care) and three months of elective rotations.
Longitudinal experience includes a year-long rotation in a pediatric specialty clinic. Elective rotations include any pediatric subspecialties.
Residents function as active members of various multidisciplinary teams and participate in drug utilization evaluations, formulary management, adverse drug events monitoring, multidisciplinary committees, quality improvement projects, staff development, student preceptorship and a required residency project. Residents also attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting held in December and the Western States Residency Conference held in May or June. Residents are also encouraged to attend local pharmacy meetings.
Applicants must have graduated from an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree program and be eligible for licensure in California. For more information, please call the CHOC Department of Pharmacy Services at 714.509.8806 or email rjew@choc.org.
