CHOC Children’s Rehabilitation department consists of a dynamic team of therapists treating a full spectrum of pediatric medical conditions and injuries requiring physical, occupational and/or speech therapy. From orthopaedic patients with limited mobility to developmentally delayed, pre-term newborns in CHOC’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, we offer cutting-edge therapeutic approaches in a compassionate, family-centered environment.
Our team works in both in- and outpatient settings and are a vital part of each patient’s comprehensive care team. We customize each patient’s treatment plan, tailoring to his or her individual needs, and understand that the best outcomes are produced when we take a comprehensive, “whole body” approach. And we are proud to have developed exciting and innovative ways to meet our often large patient volumes, including developmental and feeding groups.
We are also proud to be one of a handful of children’s hospitals able to offer Vital Stim Therapy to improve dysphagia. Our occupational therapy and speech teams also participate in in- and outpatient swallow studies and are part of CHOC’s inpatient feeding team, working together to address feeding and swallowing disorders in children of all ages. All three of our Rehabilitation divisions (PT, OT and Speech) are also involved in evidence-based research at CHOC.
Our team is comprised of high-energy therapists who are enthusiastic about their role in patient care and are not only dedicated to their patients, but to each other as well. Many of our team members have become nationally known speakers and participate in guest lectures, community education programs and parent support groups. We also offer “in house” mentoring programs and opportunities for clinical staff and physician education. Our team members are encouraged to remain at the forefront of patient care through the utilization of best practices and continuing education. We are truly driven to provide the best care possible and have fun doing it!
